Work To Be Done

Nearly halfway through Joe Biden's first-term presidency, moderate and progressive voting women find themselves at the crossroads of that administration's policies. On the domestic front, President Biden has scored major political victories on climate change, prescription drug prices, taxing the wealthy, and national debt reduction. Where the new White House has failed has been on reproductive healthcare issues, specifically challenges related to women's privacy and freedom to choose, and needed legislation enshrining laws to protect minority voting in traditionally Republican controlled states.

Setbacks on reproductive care and voting rights signal perhaps another ask from progressive women and minority coalitions that could be generational, meaning any hoped-for legal advancements might be ten to fifteen years down the road in the future. In many respects, progressives and minorities have made it abundantly clear they are weary and impatient with all the promises that have been made concerning their agenda, assurances that their policies would have priority within the Democratic party.

To that point, women and minorities must become more actively involved with the most pressing causes centered on gender, race and leadership.

Besides Gender

As Biden steps away from the White House, his administration is confronted with social, economic, and legal controversies that mostly revolve around equality concerning gender and race. These are daunting times as the pandemic has disproportionately impacted women and people of color, further exacerbating systemic governmental issues of policy, law, and social reform. Will Republicans join his progressive cause?
